Come play

Play with peace of mind

Everything about safety, accessibility & hygiene. At Playhood, we want children to explore freely while you join in or watch with peace of mind. That is why we think not only about everything there is to experience in our Hood, but also about safety, accessibility and a welcoming, clean play environment.

Safety

Free to play. With peace of mind.

At Playhood, safety starts with the design of our play streets. The little houses surround a central square and are made for discovering, playing and inventing stories together.

Everything here revolves around roleplay: exploring together, inventing stories and becoming completely absorbed in the Hood. From shopping at the supermarket to being a barista at Milkies, caring for animals or welcoming hotel guests.

Why we use fixed play sessions

We use fixed play sessions to keep the Hood comfortable and leave enough room to play and explore together.

  1. 01

    Play

Explore together in the little houses and around the central square.

  2. 02

    Reset

Our team tidies, cleans and replenishes everything.

  3. 03

    Ready again

The Hood is ready for the next visitors and a new story.

Accessibility

Everyone plays in their own way.

Our little houses are accessible to children and adults with physical disabilities, including wheelchair users.

For us, accessibility goes beyond the physical space. There is no single right way to roleplay. You can be a doctor, shopkeeper, chef or customer, or take your time to see what is happening first. This lets children play in their own way and at their own pace.

There is more than one way to join in

  1. 1. Choose a role
  2. 2. Explore at your own pace
  3. 3. Create a story together

Children who need extra support or have an intellectual or developmental disability are welcome too. Do you have questions beforehand about what your child needs to enjoy their visit? Please contact us. We will gladly explore what is possible with you.

Together with Drostenburg

Every year, we welcome groups including the youngest pupils from Drostenburg, an expertise centre for special education and rehabilitation. When a visit involves wheelchairs, medical support or extra guidance, for example, we discuss what is needed beforehand so everyone can enjoy playing as much as possible.

“It was another incredibly successful morning! The children loved it. They had the time of their lives, which was wonderful to see. The children's smiling faces are what make it all worthwhile!”
Marloes van Hoek, teacher at Drostenburg

Playhood for as many families as possible

We believe it is important for as many children as possible to have the chance to play. Additional options are therefore available for families, schools and organisations in some situations. Contact us and we will gladly explore what is possible together.

Hygiene

Play is allowed to get a little messy.

A shop after a busy round of shopping, a Milkies full of coffee and a vet's surgery with patients everywhere: it is all part of play.

Our clean-up song gets everyone moving

We end every play session together. When our clean-up song starts, everyone in the Hood knows what time it is: together, we return everything to its place. Our team then cleans, replenishes and prepares the little houses for the next group.

The song was recorded especially for Playhood by our niece Jade Caballeros. This little piece of family has become part of the Hood.

Accessibility statement

Our accessibility statement

We want as many people as possible to find, book and visit Playhood. We are not yet fully accessible and do not claim full compliance with an accessibility standard.

Last updated: 10 August 2026

An honest view of where we are

The website and locations have not been fully and independently audited against every accessibility requirement. This statement describes our current effort and known areas for attention, not a certification.

1

Our commitment

We aim to write clearly, structure pages logically, support keyboard use, provide sufficient contrast and respect reduced-motion preferences. We include accessibility in the design, development and content of new features.

Because Playhood includes a website, an external booking environment and physical play locations, the experience can differ between parts.

2

Known limitations

We know barriers may remain. We prioritise issues that prevent people from independently finding information, booking or contacting us.

  • The ROLLER ticket environment and other third-party content are not fully under our technical control and may behave differently with a keyboard or assistive technology.
  • Embedded maps, videos, social media and consent tools may have limitations.
  • Older images or documents may have incomplete alternative text or structure.
  • The formal terms are a Dutch PDF from 2023 and may be less usable with some assistive technologies. Ask us for an accessible alternative.
  • Although we support reduced motion, some decorative or interactive elements may still need improvement.
  • We have not yet completed a full independent WCAG audit.
3

Accessibility at our locations

Buildings, routes, toilets, noise levels, lighting and play features differ by location. Not every area is independently accessible to every visitor. Contact us before your visit, name the location and explain what you need. We will provide current, specific information and discuss a reasonable adjustment where possible.

An accompanying adult remains responsible for supervising children. We handle mobility aids and assistance dogs according to applicable rules and what can be safely and reasonably supported at the location.

4

Help with information or booking

If a page, document or booking step does not work for you, email hello@playhood.nl. Include the page or task, device and any assistive technology. We will try to provide the same information or service through a suitable alternative, such as email or personal assistance.

If you request an accessible format, we will look for a usable solution without unnecessary cost.

5

Feedback and response

Report an accessibility problem through hello@playhood.nl. We will acknowledge your message and aim to provide a substantive response within fourteen days. If a fix needs more time, we will explain what we are investigating and when you can expect an update.

Do not send sensitive medical details that are not needed. Focus on the task you cannot complete and the adjustment that would help.

6

Continuous improvement

We review accessibility during significant changes, act on useful feedback and plan targeted testing. After a broader audit, we will update this statement with concrete findings and priorities.

The date above shows when this statement was last changed.
